I came across an old picture of me and I just couldn’t not share. The photo right after this one is me putting my toe in my mouth. I used to do that as a child A LOT, and I think I did it until I was really old like 7 😂
This photo makes me smile so much until I realise this darling had already had 6 surgeries.
It makes me sad that I don’t think I ever had a childhood.
That’s the price of illness, surgeries and scars. A lot of growing up, way too young and ultimately a loss of innocence.
I’m not the only one. But I am one of the lucky few that actually survived to tell the tale. I know it’s heavy but it’s worth having a perspective check. I promised this child that I would never lose sight of how lucky I am to be alive. I don’t keep this promise every day, but I try to, as much as I can 💖🔥 #ScarredNotScared
